The Buffalo Bills addressed two positions of need last week in free agency , but they still left questions at many others. For instance, who will line up next to Taylor Rapp at Safety? Who will be the Center? Do they really want Connor McGovern taking snaps at Center? With a projected $11.1M left in cap space, the Buffalo Bills have enough money to address some more needs before the draft begins. So who’s out there that could help them?

S Tracy Walker

Walker was released by the Detroit Lions in a cap saving move. In 2023, he appeared in 17 games, starting in six of them. He totaled 59 tackles, three QB hits, one sack, and one forced fumble. Walker has never been a full time starter with the Lions, except for the 2021 season when he started all 15 games he played in. Other than that, he found ways to help the team from a backup role.

Walker has a bit of an injury history, having missed 14 games in 2022 with a torn Achilles, one game in 2020 with a foot injury, and three games in 2019 with a knee sprain. At 29 years old, Walker is one of the younger Safeties the Bills could still land in free agency, and he wouldn’t be as costly as Justin Simmons, Eddie Jackson, or any of the elite veterans still on the board.

C Brian Allen

Allen has spent his entire career with the LA Rams, winning a Super Bowl with the team in 2022. At 28 years old, the Bills could get Allen on a long-term deal that will keep him here until he’s at least 32. He was released by the Rams in another cap casualty move, not because of his play. Allen is one of the more talented Centers still available, and will command a starting job from his next team.

Singing Allen will let McGovern slide back into the Guard position, where he excelled the most throughout his career, and also keep David Edwards in his swing position role that he excelled at last year. The Bills love signing former Rams players the last two years, with Edwards and Taylor Rapp being the most notable. Adding Allen to the mix will give Edwards and OL Coach Aaron Kromer a familiar face, and keep most of the continuity the team built on the OL last year.

Plus, who doesn’t want an Allen snapping to Josh Allen next year? Personally, I’d love to see it happen.

DT Teair Tart

Tart played for two teams last year. He started the year with the Tennessee Titans, playing in 11 games and totaling 21 tackles, eight TFLs, and one sack. Then he ended the year with the Houston Texans, recording three tackles in two games. At 27 years old, Tart is a cheap option to rotate with DaQuan Jones and Ed Oliver on the DL, and gives the Bills time to find their other DT through the draft, though maybe not as high as they initially planned on.

The Buffalo Bills likely aren’t bringing back Jordan Phillips or Linval Joseph. Meanwhile, they already lost Tim Settle to the Texans and Poona Ford to the LA Chargers. That leaves Ed Oliver, Eli Ankou, and DaQuan Jones as the only DTs the Bills have rostered. Bringing in Tart from free agency and filling out the room the rest of the way through the draft is the most likely option for Brandon Beane right now.
