New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh gave a much-awaited update on injured offensive lineman Mekhi Becton on Tuesday. Coming off a lost 2021 campaign where he suffered a season-ending knee injury in September, things are not looking great for Becton yet again in 2022.
"We love Mekhi. We appreciate everything he's done. His ride is not over. His story is not over." - Coach Saleh pic.twitter.com/Jisqk0uuK9

The second opinion was pushed until tomorrow. But the info is not good. Becton almost certainly out for 2022. https://t.co/cCcTVxOzvR

With the ominous prognosis for the 23-year-old, the chances of the Jets picking up free agent left tackle Duane Brown may have just increased. It was reported earlier Tuesday that New York and the five-time Pro Bowler had a mutual interest in a "potential pairing."
According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, Saleh said Tuesday afternoon that the Jets' front office is "working on" the Brown situation. The former member of the Houston Texans and Seattle Seahawks first visited with New York on Saturday.
Becton was selected 11th overall by the Jets out of Louisville in 2020 and played 14 games as a rookie, making 13 starts.
