Twins sign veteran utilityman Niko Goodrum to minor league deal

The Twins made a move in what has been an otherwise silent start to the offseason on Friday, signing veteran utilityman Niko Goodrum to a minor league deal.

The 31-year-old made his debut with the Twins in 2017, but appeared in just 11 games before being dropped from the roster.

He then joined the Detroit Tigers, appearing in 242 games across the next two seasons, hitting .245 in the first with 16 homers, and .248 in the second with 12 homers.

He is also versatile in the field, playing at shortstop, second base, and in the outfield.

A brief spell at the Houston Astros followed his departure from the Tigers in 2021, and he spent last year at the Worcester Red Sox, the Boston Red Sox' minor league team.

He'll now be working for a place on the Twins roster ahead of spring training.
