Minnesota Twins Add Pair of Minor Leaguers to 40-Man Roster on Monday
USA TODAY Sports

The Minnesota Twins have added a pair of prospects to their 40-man roster on Monday.

Per Twins Insider Bobby Nightengale:

Twins added catcher Jair Camargo and infielder Yunior Severino to their 40-man roster. They were set to become MiLB free agents.

Both players can continue to provide the Twins organization with some power, as both exhibited the trait in 2023.

The 24-year-old Camargo batted .259/.323/.503 with 21 home runs this season with St. Paul (Triple-A).

As for Severino: He's also 24-years-old and hit 272/.352/.546 with 35 home runs between Double-A Wichita and St. Paul in 2023. Severino has primarily played second and third base in the minors.

Severino is the 28th-ranked prospect in the Twins' organization, per MLB.com. Here's more on him from a portion of his prospect profile:

As he’s physically matured, Severino has shown an ability to really impact the baseball from both sides of the plate. He has continued to register plus exit velocities, using his bat speed to great effect to get to his raw power in games. There are still concerns about his approach at the plate as well as his swing-and-miss, but he’s managed to not let the strikeout rate increase too much as he’s moved to the higher levels.

While there’s now confidence Severino will one day get a chance to hit in the big leagues, there are questions about what position he’ll play while doing so. He had played mostly second base and continues to see time there, but he’s had more time at third of late, where his strong arm does profile well.

The Twins won the American League Central this past season but were beaten in the ALDS by the Houston Astros.
